The General Directorate of Environmental Quality and Climate Change, of the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Catalan Government, has been accepted as an associate member of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN). During the annual general assembly, the Catalan Environmental Quality Assurance Badge was recognized as an eco-label that guarantees credibility, transparency and independence. This fact positions and recognizes the Catalan eco-label among the eco-labeling systems for products and services on a global scale, as is the case of the EU eco-label, which in Catalonia is also processed by the Department of Action. Climate of the Catalan Government.
The Global Ecolabeling Network is a non-profit association of type I eco-labeling organizations, which take into account the requirements of ISO 14024 and officially identify and certify that certain products or services have a minor impact on the environment, taking into account its entire life cycle. These eco-labels are awarded by an independent third party which, in the case of the Environmental Quality Assurance Badge, is the General Directorate for Environmental Quality and Climate Change.
Since its inception in 1994 and with members in more than 25 countries, GEN has been working to improve, promote and develop Type I eco-labeling of products and services worldwide. This network serves its members and other associated Type I eco-labeling programs. At the same time, it promotes and develops product labeling, the credibility of labeling programs worldwide, and the availability of information on labeling standards around the world, as well as participating in international organizations to promote labeling and encourage the demand and supply of more environmentally responsible products and services. One of its most important goals is the fight against greenwashing, due to the large number of poorly labeled eco-labels on the market.
